SHORT SYNOPSIS
After years in a psychiatric institution, Khodr returns to the wealthy family that sent him away and never knew what to do with him. His father dies suddenly, bringing the family together at the estate with lawyers, old resentments and competing plans for the future. While they try to regain control of the house and the inheritance, Khodr retreats into the world he understands: cars, engines, order and small mechanical projects.
People begin to disappear. First the family dog, then members of the family itself. As suspicion and unease grow, the relatives become increasingly desperate to protect what they believe belongs to them, while Khodr remains strangely calm, moving through the increasingly empty house as if nothing has changed.
As the family falls apart, Khodr slowly begins to create a place of his own—and, perhaps for the first time, discovers what it means to belong.
THE FILM
IT’S KHODR’S FAULT is a character-driven dark comedy and psychological thriller about a family that has spent years trying to contain someone it never understood.
The film moves between the absurdity of family behaviour and a growing sense of mystery. Wealth, inheritance and social etiquette sit beside something much less controllable: Khodr himself.
At the centre is a man who has spent most of his life being watched, managed and spoken about by other people. When he finally returns home, the family has to confront the person they created by keeping him away.
TONE & WORLD
The world is naturalistic, elegant and quietly surreal.
A beautiful country estate, carefully maintained gardens and expensive interiors create a polished surface. Beneath it are old resentments, awkward relationships and a family constantly trying to maintain appearances.
The comedy comes from deadpan behaviour, discomfort and the absurdity of people treating extraordinary situations as ordinary.
The film stays close to Khodr’s perspective without explaining everything. Strange details, objects and repeated actions gradually take on a different meaning as the story unfolds.
